The Food Bank's Soup Cellar is now located at Middle Wall Baptist Church, Whitstable from 1200-1400 on a Wednesday. Drop in for a chat, advice and free homemade soup.
A Café With a Difference
We now have CIC after our name, which stands for ‘Community Interest Company’. It makes our status as a social enterprise official. We welcome everyone, support young people with learning difficulties and work with serving and ex-offenders through community placements.
Pay It Forward
The Umbrella Café CIC is part of Whitstable’s Pay it Forward scheme, along with Revival and Caffe 89. It’s an easy way to provide a meal or drink for someone in need.
You don't need to buy anything from us – sometimes people just leave us donations or they add something onto their bill. Each £1 someone donates is turned into a tally line – we then take the value of anything ordered via Pay It Forward off the blackboard.
Just ask one of the team to put your chosen amount on the tally, and we’ll do the rest…
Community Tuesdays is a new initiative shared with the Umbrella Community Centre. Drop in between 12.00 and 3.00pm on Tuesdays for hot soup, a warm welcome and a safe space to relax. We also offer warm drinks, spare clothes, games, radio, and access to internet and telephone.
Our homemade soup is free but if you can pay we will accept donations to Pay It Forward, to keep the funds topped up. The Umbrella Centre receives a bakery donation from Tesco in Tankerton on Tuesdays, so there is usually a basket of free bread in our foyer too!
