Lunch Specials
Our specials change every day. If you’re vegan or gluten-free we will always have choices for you. Everything is made from scratch and we use a lot of donated produce from Fareshare Kent & our local suppliers in our menu. We believe with a little creativity we can help with the fight against food waste.
All our tart bases are homemade, made with our own nutritious gluten-free flour blend, including almond flour. Our salad of the day is always served as a jar ready for you to tip onto the plate. It comes already dressed, with either couscous or millet, a naturally gluten-free and protein filled grain.
Choices include:
- Soup of the day, served with delicious freshly baked Slowbread white or granary, or our own gluten-free bread.
- A vegan bowl served with Slowbread bread. Think dahl, veggie-filled stews or curries.
- A choice of a veggie and cheese filled tart or a vegan cashew cream and vegetable tart, served with our salad of the day or simple greens.
- A meat dish of the day, served with simple greens
New – Umbrella Meze platters
Our new platters are great for sharing between two people. They include veggie or vegan tart, our bowl of the day, Slowbread white or granary (or our gluten-free), a seasonal dip or hummus, chutney and greens.
On Toast
- Mushrooms in creamy cider sauce - made with double cream or oat cream
- Cheese on toast. Add Lea & Perrins, wholegrain mustard or Kent Farm chilli jam.
- Bananas. Add Nutella or dairy-free chocolate spread.
- Sardines – tomato or sunflower oil.
- Bacon and egg huffkins.
What is a Huffkin? Tobi at Slowbread bakes us huffkins daily. They are a traditional kent bap, very soft and with a dimple on the top. Also delicious toasted with jam.
Children's Menu
- Half portions of hot specials
- Filled huffkins: peanut butter, cream cheese, jam or marmite
- Small cheese on toast
- Meal deal: £4 filled huffkin or cheese on toast, pom bears, jelly and a juice carton.
Cakes
Change regularly depending on what we fancy baking. There is always a gluten free and vegan option available. Here are some recent examples of what we have been baking:

- Black bean brownies (vegan & gluten free)

Why not take away?
Have your very own Whitstable Take-away - everything we cook and bake is able to be taken away to the beach, park or wherever you like.
We encourage our customers to bring in reusable containers wherever possible. We will happily put soup into reusable coffee cups and tarts & cakes in beeswax wraps or similar.
We have only one loyalty card, one which rewards reusables. Each reusable is one stamp and ten stamps = a free lunch on us.
